From Cars to Stoves: How American Energy and Consumer Choice are Showing Up in U.S. Elections

12:00 pm

“It’s the economy, stupid,” might as well be, “It’s all about consumer choice.” And if recent federal and state elections are any indication, the way to build and rally coalitions is not by championing policies that undercut consumer freedoms and deliver less value for a family’s dollar. Where public awareness of energy and vehicle choice issues grows in prominence, better policy tends to follow. But awareness is the critical first step.

The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) represents the U.S. energy downstream and midstream industries. AFPM helmed a major education campaign over the course of 2023 and 2024 to raise public awareness around key energy issues within the context of state and federal elections.
