Thermal Imaging Technology Lending Program Presentation

On Wednesday, August 30th, the TriCounty Health Department, DEQ and FLIR Corporation are hosting a free presentation and discussion on a new program to help industry identify and repair leaks using thermal imaging technology. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Uintah Conference Center.  A free catered dinner will be provided.

DOGM Discusses O&G Regulation Under Land Transfer

Over the past several years, Utah's Legislature has sought the transfer of management of Utah's vast federal lands into the control of the State.  Legislators established the Commission for the Stewardship of Public Lands to study all aspects of such a transfer and make recommendations to the Legislature for further State actions.

Legislators Look at Regulatory Fees

In place of a regular legislative interim day in July, Utah's Legislature rather held appropriation subcommittee hearings throughout the day on July 26.  In an effort to give more time for study and adequate input on the State's budgetary process, legislators heard from regulatory agencies regarding the services they provide and fees they impose to cover the costs of those services.

DAQ Releases STEPP Study Findings to Legislature

The Utah Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has released to the Legislature the results of their Storage Tank Emissions Pilot Project (STEPP).  The STEPP study was designed to measure fugitive organic compound emissions from liquid storage tanks in the Uinta Basin.

UPA Signs On to IPAA Tax Reform Comments

UPA has signed on to comments submitted by IPAA to the Senate Finance Committee on upcoming tax reform efforts in Congress. IPAA's comments focus on the role of the U.S. tax code in ensuring the continued production of abundant American natural resources and the future of independent producers that support this job-creating development.

UPA Meets with Utah OSHA

UPA's refining members met with representatives of Utah's OSHA staff to re-introduce our industry's safety efforts and to get an overview of Utah OSHA's priorities and any concerns they may have.  

WOTUS Topic for Roundtable with EPA Administrator

UPA was pleased to be invited and participate in a roundtable discussion with Governor Herbert and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on the topic of the 2015 Waters of the U.S. Rule.  The July 18 meeting also included representatives from all Utah's congressional delegation, DEQ and DNR, SITLA, OED, mining and agriculture.  

DAQ Permit by Rule Introduction Delayed

UPA has confirmed with the Division of Air Quality that the long-anticipated oil and gas permit by rule proposal will be introduced to the Utah Air Quality Board in the Board's September meeting.  That meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 1:30 p.m. at the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

BOGM Rule Published for Comment

A proposed rule approved for public comment by the Utah Board of Oil, Gas and Mining has been published in the Utah State Bulletin.  The "Refusal to Agree" (R649-2-9) rule (view here) is now available for public comment through August 15th.  Interested parties can also comment during the Board's August 23rd regular hearing.
